Arizona

We have been back from Arizona for a week now and I haven’t said anything about the trip. So, here it goes…

First, it was exhausting. The whole thing basically consists of late nights and early mornings. We try to get six hours of sleep each night, but for some reason it rarely seemed to work out that way.

Second, it wasn’t as hot as normal. In fact, it rained a lot the last day we were there. The rain made for some interesting moments. Because there really isn’t any paved roads on the reservation (at least in the neighborhoods), the rain just made mud – and lots of it. In fact, we got a couple of our vans stuck in the church parking lot! It wasn’t a pretty picture. Tae-Han, Jae and I were out in the middle of a mud swamp, pushing a van at 10 o’clock at night! Took us a while, but we finally got it free.

Third, I attempted to catch/kill a rat with a plastic fork. Yep, you read it right. We had a few girls get sick during the week, so we had them sleep in a room off of the kitchen at the church. But, they thought they heard a rat moving around in the dark…so I went in and sat and waited with my fork…I’m not sure what would have happened if I had actually seen the rat. I never found the rat…but we moved the girls, so everything worked out.

Fourth, our students did an amazing job working with the Navajo children. We had 11 students travel with us this year, and it was great to see them work so hard. Angela and Daniel both shared their testimonies in the church service on Sunday. Which was pretty incredible! We played games, gave “piggy-back-rides” to the children, shared Christ, played basketball, and sang songs! I’ll try to put some pictures up here soon of the trip…the Internet at my house is super slow…so be patient.

Fifth, there was no hospital trips! After last year’s crazy hospital run at 11pm, we certainly didn’t want to do that again. Thankfully, for the most part, everyone remained healthy.

Sixth, going with Salem Heights was great, again! For the second straight year we teamed up with Salem Heights Church to travel to Arizona.

So there you have it…I could tell stories for hours…but my fingers would get tired. I’ll work on getting pictures up soon!
